Sail Training pathway

This pathway is delivered in conjunction with our Affiliate School, North Wales Power and Sail.

RYA Sail Training Pathway

This pathway is aimed at leisure and commercial sailors who wish to sail sailing yachts.

RYA Start Sailing

This course provides a short introduction to sail cruising for novices. By the end of the course you will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework and be aware of safety on board. Duration: 2 Full Days.

RYA Competent Crew

This is for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, and assist in all the day to day routines. Minimum age: 12. Duration: 5 Full Days.

RYA Day Skipper (Sail)

This course gives you the chance to take charge on short passages under instruction. You will concentrate on pilotage boat handling seamanship and navigation. Required experience: Basic sailing ability. 5 days, 100 miles and 4 night hours onboard a sailing yacht. Navigation and theory knowledge to Day Skipper Shorebased level. Duration: 5 Full Days.

RYA Coastal Skipper (Sail)

A course for those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. Required experience: 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours. Navigation and theory knowledge to Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Shorebased level.  Duration: 5 Full Days.

RYA Yachtmaster Sail

For those students wishing to undertake an RYA Yachtmaster practical examination at either Coastal or Offshore level. Minimum age is 18 years old. Navigation and theory knowledge to Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Shorebased level.  Duration: 5 Full Days.
